If you’re planning a team event in the Bay Area, you have a lot of options including escape rooms, cooking classes, scavenger hunts, and “hosted games.” It’s almost guaranteed that everyone has already participated in one of these already. A challenge is finding something that doesn’t feel like a chore for your team to attend.
We started Your Team Is Amazing because we have a passion for connecting people over experiences that expand their sense of self and connection with each other. We aren’t just facilitators; we’re performers with years of stage time at The Second City, Improv Boston, and theater training at Northwestern. We use the teaching of magic and improv because they’re instant ways to get a room full of people to drop their guard, laugh, and connect and—if you choose—easily reflect on and reinforce insights from the experience.
Why Magic and Improv?
The foundation of our approach lies in two timeless arts: magic and improv. At first glance, they might seem like simply entertainment, but they are actually powerful tools for professional development and building connection.
Magic is about more than just “how the trick is done.” The earliest record of magic as an art form appears in ancient Egypt around 2700 BCE, describing the feats of a magician named Dedi in the Westcar Papyrus. Today, magic is hugely popular thanks to social media, and learning and performing magic sparks curiosity and forces a shift in perception. Magic challenges our assumptions, a vital skill for any team trying to adapt and grow. Performing a trick, even one learned in short amount of time, develops storytelling and presentation skills, teaching participants how to command a room and manage an audience’s attention with confidence.
Improv, on the other hand, is the ultimate gym for the communicating and collaborating. One of the earliest origins of improvisational theater trace back to commedia dell’arte, a form of unscripted performance that emerged in Italy during the 16th century. Playing improv games cultivates spontaneity, play, and adaptability. It sharpens interpersonal communication skills through active listening and “Yes, And” thinking, which is the practice of taking an idea and expanding upon it rather than shutting it down. Our corporate improv workshops bring these skills to life.
Our Unique Offerings
We don’t just talk about these concepts; we immerse your team in them through a variety of high-energy, interactive formats:
- Workshop: Learn Magic & Play Improv Games. This 60 to 90-minute session is our most popular. It’s a low-pressure environment where participants learn impressive magic tricks (and keep the magic supplies) while engaging in improv games that spark genuine laughter and connection. It’s accessible, welcoming, and perfect for groups of 6–50. We have a team of facilitators to scale for larger groups.
- Team Talent Show: For a deeper dive, your team is the star in this 2-3+ hour experience. After a magic workshop, small groups develop their own routines—flexing their storytelling, creativity and public speaking skills. Our magician facilitators emcee the show, weaving in humor and professional magic to ensure your team feels like the stars of the show.
- Event Plug-Ins: Whether it’s a beer garden or low-key event in the company’s cafeteria, we offer flexible “plug-ins.” From the Wonder Bar Magic Activity Station—where magic is both performed and taught—to strolling close-up magic and interactive platform shows, we can scale to reach 100s of people.
- Virtual Interactive Magic Show & Class: For distributed teams, we bring the same interactivity to the screen. Whether it’s a quick 15-minute entertaining icebreaker for a company Town Hall or a 60-minute magic class using household objects, we ensure the virtual event space feels just as connected as a physical one.
